Update: September 2024: The scheme is now complete and all the essential infrastruct is now ready for you to upgrade to full fibre. Residents and businesses can now upgrade to this much faster service are able to place a new/upgrade order with whichever broadband retailer they choose. Personally, I recommend PlusNet. However BT retail or Sky (if also wishing to take Sky TV and Netflix as a package) are also good options. The 100Mbps service (the slowest I would consider) is round £26 per month. The ideal speed for most modern households with streaming/gaming/home working needs is probably the 500Mbps service which is around £30-35 per month.
Sept 2023: Openreach, the company that looks after the UK’s broadband infrastructure, has been running a scheme to upgrade the broadband network in the Bleasby exchange area. This includes Bleasby, Goverton, Gibsmere, Thurgaton, Fiskerton and Morton. But they needed our support to make this happen.
Properties in these villages are eligible for a free government broadband voucher. By rallying together and enough people pledging their voucher, Openreach will build a full fibre broadband network.
Full fibre brings lightning-fast speeds of up to 1 Gbps and unparalleled reliability that minimises faults. It’ll mean you can easily stream TV and films, engage in online gaming, work remotely, or have multiple devices connected at once. All without any buffering or drop-outs. Research has even suggested that full fibre broadband can potentially increase the value of your property.
One thing to note, Openreach is only responsible for building the network (on behalf of companies like Sky, TalkTalk, BT, EE, Plusnet, Vodafone etc.), so you'll have a choice of your preferred broadband provider when upgrading to full fibre.
